[IMAGE 3 of 3] As soon as this Veromessor pergandei
worker was within reach of the spider's long forelegs, it was instantly drawn in and envenomated. This happened so quickly that it was impossible to tell exactly where on the ant's body the spider's fangs were inserted. Within minutes, the now immobilized ant was set aside, as the spider waited for another victim. Within the space of one hour, she captured two more workers. I had to leave the area to get to my next location, so I was not able to observe where, when, or how the spider actually fed on the ants.
